Primates in the wild

Cotton monkey

Picture 7 of 7

This tiny monkey lives in South America, where it is commonly called bichichi. It got its name because of its hairdo, which resembles a Mohawk. Saguinus oedipus are considered the smallest of primates; they weigh up to 450 grams and measure up to 17 centimetres. They communicate with 38 different sounds and live up to 25 years in captivity. It is estimated that there are less than 6,000 individuals in the wild. Image: Shutterstock
