Echidna
Picture 7 of 8
Tachyglossus aculeatus is an egg-laying mammal. It has a long, hairless snout to search for food (ants and termites) and, most importantly, detect danger. When the 'spiny anteater' feels threatened it curls into a ball and hides beneath rocks. Echidnas, which are related to the platypus, live up to 16 years in the wild. Image: Shutterstock.
