{"id":6307,"date":"2012-06-29T14:48:34","date_gmt":"2012-06-29T04:48:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scienceillustrated.com.au\/blog\/?p=6307"},"modified":"2012-07-09T16:39:18","modified_gmt":"2012-07-09T06:39:18","slug":"higgs-boson-the-quest-for-the-elusive-particle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scienceillustrated.com.au\/blog\/science\/higgs-boson-the-quest-for-the-elusive-particle\/","title":{"rendered":"Higgs boson: the quest continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After years and years, the quest seems to be over&#8221;\u00a6 or at least that is what we expect to hear next week, when CERN&#8217;s scientists unveil their results at the at the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ichep2012.com.au\/\"> 36<span style=\"font-size: 11.11111068725586px;\">th<\/span>\u00a0International Conference on High Energy Physics <\/a>at Melbourne&#8217;s Convention and Exhibition Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement will be made on July 4, but Ian Hinchliffe, a theoretical physicist who participated in the ATLAS experiment, wrote this week on <a href=\"http:\/\/newscenter.lbl.gov\/feature-stories\/2012\/06\/28\/higgs-2012\/\">Berkeley Lab&#8217;s<\/a> website: &#8220;We do not yet know what will be shown on July 4th&#8221;\u00a6 I have seen many conjectures on blogs about what will be shown: these are idle speculations. Things are moving very fast this week, and it&#8217;s an exciting time at CERN.
